Inclement Weather Plan: At times, emergencies such as severe weather, fires, power failures, and other non-weather related emergencies can disrupt operations. In such instances, HIRTA will place cancelation announcements on Television Stations KCCI and WHO, as well as, on our website and social media outlets. Inclement weather usually does not warrant closing of transit services. Inclement weather requires volunteers to make personal judgments pertaining to safety in traveling to and from their volunteer site. If a volunteer decides to cancel service due to weather outside of business hours, volunteer will contact community member. Volunteer drivers have the discretion to pull off the road due to dangerous driving conditions, which threaten the safety of themselves or passengers or risk damage to their vehicle. Volunteers must immediately notify the volunteer coordinator of the decision to pull off the road. A discussion of conditions and a decision on the next course of action will follow.
