Volunteer: VITA Tax Preparers

VITA Tax Preparer (Volunteer)

VITA Tax Preparers provide free, high-quality tax preparation assistance to eligible individuals and families through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Volunteers help ensure taxpayers understand their returns and receive all credits and refunds they are entitled to.

Responsibilities:

Prepare basic federal and state income tax returns for eligible taxpayers

Interview clients to gather accurate tax information

Explain completed tax returns in a clear, respectful manner

Follow IRS VITA quality standards and confidentiality requirements

Complete required IRS training and certification

Work collaboratively with site coordinators and other volunteers

Qualifications:

Interest in helping others and serving the community

Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

Basic computer skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality

No prior tax experience required — training provided

Time Commitment:

February through April 15

Flexible scheduling during tax season

Potential Workshop Focus Areas:

Agronomy, Child Development, Civic Engagement, Clothing, Computer Science, Environment, Robotics, Food and Nutrition, Health, Home Improvement, Horticulture, Mechanics, Music, Photography, Sewing and Needle Arts, Veterinary Science, Visual Arts and Woodworking. 

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to lead or co-lead a 60-to-90-minute project workshop to our 4-H youth.
